My One Good Thing for this week... hmmm, isn't it funny how sometimes one day you can be overflowing with great feelings and high self-esteem and then the next, not so much. Through One Good Thing I have embraced my height, my slender fingers and my butt. These are easy and for me, obvious aspects of my body to celebrate. But I feel the challenge of developing high self-esteem and good body image, is to embrace those parts that aren't so obviously loveable.
Those parts of us that we try to avoid, cover up, change or even actively loath. There's a real challenge for the One Good Thing campaign- to celebrate those aspects of our body that we don't normally like.Small breasts? Flabby arms? Large thighs? Curly hair? Straight hair?
I bet for every body part we dislike, there is someone out there wishing they had it! I may not be rapt with what I have been given to fill a bra cup size B (and that's being generous) but I know to many, that larger breasts can be painful, embarrassing or unhealthy. What would we prefer? The grass is certainly not always greener on the other side.
So here is the challenge for One Good Thing. How about feeling happy that we have something so glorious to inhabit this earth in? Let's give our bodies a break and instead of insisting that we would prefer to have bigger, smaller, slimmer, tighter whatever's, we declare a truce and celebrate it all!
