I Feel It In My Bones

Have you ever had an intuitive moment? A time when you just 'knew' something- it may have been to avoid a threatening situation to yourself or someone close; it may have been knowing information before it was shared, such as a terminal illness or imminent death?  Or it may have been a feeling that something just wasn't right for you- a job offer, a house move, a new relationship.

Whatever the situation, being in-tune to yourself and what is going on can be incredibly beneficial, even life-saving. You may call it premonition, sixth sense or intuition but a rose by any other name... If you are able to tune in to yourself: mind, body and soul, you will be able to get much more clearer signals about things that not good for us.

Talking with 2 friends recently had them describe almost the exact same reactions to two completely different situations; their intuitive cues were firing like mad and their internal bells were ding-ling-a-linging. Both had quite physical reactions as well. Unfortunately for both, these alarms and warnings were felt but not recognised for exactly what they were til after the fact but it did highlight to me some very important points about having personal awareness.

1. Awareness is a great starting point

Even if it doesn't help the first time, if on reflection you can recognise what those internal alarms are about, then the next time, you will certainly be forewarned and ready to listen to what is going on.

2. If you don't listen to what your mind is telling you, it will manifest it's point physically

Each of my friends described feeling incredibly stressed, shakey, over-emotional, almost physically sick in the situations they were about to encounter. If they had truly listened to what their minds were telling them in the first place, it might have stopped the creation of the physical symptoms: the mind is a clever thing, knowing we are more likely to take notice of what we can physically feel rather than the more unknown intuitively 'feel'.

This is exactly what happened again to my friends: there had been previous little 'niggles' playing on their minds. A few things weren't quite right; a person one of them was involved with 'felt' very wrong; the other had a run of bad coincidences leading up to this particular day.  If they had allowed themselves to take courage and trust their instincts, both having very high personal awareness, the course of their actions would've been very different.

If you are trying to do something and it feels as though the 'whole world is against you', then it might not be the world trying to tell you something, but rather yourself!

3. Understand what it means

By listening to your body and emotional reactions towards certain events or situations, you are more able to live a harmonious life. I have written before about living a balanced life, with an emphasis on knowing your values as being integral to happiness and harmony and what happens when you aren't able to do this.  Again, as with my friends, on retrospect, each of their situations were found to be going completely against their professional and/or personal values. They knew it, but didn't fully comprehend it at the time.

Tuning in to what is happening internally, with our thoughts, our feelings and our physical health, we equip ourselves much better to live an authentic life, one that hopefully has less stress and trauma from going against our beliefs and values.
