The things that we can learn from our children is boundless. If we can stay open to what they have to teach us, set down our own agendas briefly and look to how they interact with their world, we would be discovering a lot about joy, focus, mindfulness, laughter, happiness and determination, to name but a few things.

It was some of these things that my daughter gave me a lesson in over the weekend. In quite an unexpected way, she showed me what I needed to see at the time- and she did it by spinning.
We went to a playground that had a selection of spinning play equipment but she liked this one the best because she quickly learnt that she could spin herself with one leg and then hold on tight to enjoy the momentum she created. No help from mummy, thank you very much!
She tilted her head right back, eyes squeezed tight, and laughed and laughed and laughed as she twirled round and round. The sheer delight was infectious and by the time she came to a slow halt, there was a group of children gathered around, wanting what she had!
Reluctantly having a lesson herself in sharing, she begrudgingly played on some other piece of inferior and less joyful equipment until the spinner was free again and she rushed off to get another hit of happiness.
I sat on the grass in the sun and bathed in the sunshine and her joy and delight. I let go for the moment of some things that had me wound up and tense and irritable. In the sunshine, hearing my daughter giggle, those irritations were put into sharp focus and I could see them for what they really were- minor niggles that I had blown out of proportion. By distracting me with something so gloriously fun as spinning, my daughter allowed me to gain perspective and get my thoughts back into healthy balance. So simple. So effective.
So what have you done recently that has made you throw your head back and laugh with abandon?
