The Life of 'Brian'

I have written about 'What is Life Coaching' before from a personal perspective and from how I coach as Aspiring Change, which is practice that has been informed from my own experiences and life coach training. While those who train to do it grow, more people are becoming aware of it as a profession or career and as a 'therapy' to try, however there are few who understand exactly what it is and how it works.

There are a lot of coaching models out there and  not every coach sticks to one- as far as I can tell, we are a bunch of magpies! Taking the shiny things we like from here and there, such as CBT or NLP, and putting them together to create a lovely shining mass of things that are useful, that interest us or that are just plain pretty!

If you fancy being a bit 'geeky' and swotting up on the subject to gain greater understanding and awareness, I found this great article about 'Cognitive Behavioural Coaching'.   My coaching appears to run alongside the magpie coaching analogy, with the added bonus of a holistic approach to well-being: taking into account mind, body and soul and working to help create a healthy balance between all three elements.

But if there is any particular model of coaching that I would put up my hand to following in my practice at the Cotswold Coaching Retreat, it would be this one.

And of course, I liked that 'Brian' was the case study.
