The New Stay at Home Mum

I came across an American article about 'The New Stay-at-Home Mom' with the byline:
Forget everything you've heard about stay-at-home moms. A new generation is starting their own businesses, blogging, and working at home.

Here is the article in full, written by freelance author, Charlotte Latvala.  It is an insightful read into the changing views of motherhood,  the changing concept of Stay at home mums (SAHM) and the increasing phenomenon of the working at home mum (WAHM).

The rise of the WAHM shows the increasing desire of mothers to make their life one that is balanced and fulfilling, unrestrained from societal expectation.  WAHM's are able to be both mother and individual. Working from home allows mums to continue their careers while parenting or develop new skills and strengths, often by creating their own businesses.

The range and success of WAHM owned businesses is wonderful testimony to mum's resourcefulness and initiative.  Recent economic instability has added a certain pressure to SAHM's to contribute to the households' income.  The idea of mothers using current skills, interests and abilities to earn welcome extra money can no longer  be dismissed as 'pocket-money' ventures only.

This recent proposed government initiative to help 'mumpreneurs' is evidence of the growing recognition of these at-home businesses as important contributors to the UK's economic survival and revival! An article from 'Business Matters' magazine states: "Mumpreneurs in the UK contribute £7.4 billion to the economy each year and even the Government now recognises this sector as a ‘multi-billion pound opportunity".

There are of course associated pitfalls, especially with this particular situation where home and business aren't clearly separated: guilt, stress, poor planning, lack of support.

Aspiring Change works with both SAHM's and WAHM's to help them create the lifestyle they want and one which works and is happy, healthy and fulfilling.

Maybe you need some support in creating an effective work/life balance?

Got some great ideas for an 'at-home' business but not sure how to take it further?

Finding yourself juggling and struggling and want things to run a little calmer and smoother?

Would you like to be thriving rather than just surviving?

Send me an email for a free chat. I'd love to hear from you.
