While I am not trained in Business Coaching, I find that many of the questions I ask of my personal clients are questions that are applicable within their business and are effective in not only helping with personal clarity but also clarity in the way they approach aspects of their business. So am I a Business Coach? No. But by looking into how effective you are as an individual, you can get an insight into how effective your business is.
Key questions to ask of your business
How effective is your business in the market you are trading in?
- Are you achieving the goals you want to achieve?
- Is your business successful?
How efficient are you, your staff, and your systems?
- Are you, your staff over worked or overwhelmed?
- Have you made staffing cuts to save money, only to have increased the work and stress load of staff left behind?
- Are your systems working for you?
How productive are you in the hours you work?
- Do you spend most of your time on the details (wallpaper) or on the essentials (foundations)?
How happy are you in what you do?
- Do you still have the same enthusiasm for what you do as when you first started? Passion drives success!
How many spinning plates are crashing?
- Think about all the people you have to be throughout a day, including your personal life - do you have that balanced?
More Helpful Questions…
These questions can be applied to any processes, activities, systems, tools you are already using in order to justify their existence in their present form and complexity. This will also allow you to see what ones are a drain on your time, energy and profitability and what is working well for you and your business.
- What is its purpose? What does it do?
- Is it fit for purpose?
- Is it really needed? What would or could happen if you didn’t do it?
- Who uses it and is it worth the cost?
- Are there alternatives?
Taking time to look at all these processes and systems with fresh eyes is worth the time it takes. Streamlining working practice and getting rid of any ‘deadwood’ systems will inevitably be of benefit- if not to your bottom line then to your efficiency and balance.
