What will it take?

What will it take for you to look after yourself? What will it take for you to put yourself at the top of your list? What will it take for you to commit to your future?

Heavy questions. Heavy answers: a heart attack at 35 yrs old? Chronic fatigue? IBS? Migraines? Depression? Rage? Anxiety attacks? Chronic stress? Insomnia?

These are all some of the symptoms you may experience if you have an imbalance in your life and are feeling the pressure of day-to-day living. You might ask- does it really get that bad? Surely it isn't that important if I have a few late nights, or work late for a couple of weeks to meet a deadline or are busy and don't have the chance to sit with a coffee and a magazine.

Well, in isolation, not really. However, it is the combined, on-going and sustained effect of these imbalances that cause the most trouble and end up as the chronic illnesses and pains described above.

The concept of total welllness takes into account all aspects of being; mind, body and soul and encourages you to nourish all parts. Have a think about what you are doing to nourish and stimulate your mind? Are you feeding your body the freshest, most healthy nutrients you can?  How are you nurturing your soul?

It does not take a lot to enter into a routine of total wellness. It does not take a lot to add the nourishment and nurturing that you need to maintain a healthy balance in your life. As with any change, start small and easy: investigate organic fruit and vegetable deliveries; take 5 minutes at the beginning of the day to breathe deeply and stretch; read a book for 10 minutes at the end of the day; connect with a good friend once a week; chew your food; book a massage; take a walk.

These are not momentous changes to implement, but just as imbalance has a cumulative and negative affect, these little doses of nourishment and personal investment have a positive cumulative effect. Over time and before too long, you will be righting the imbalance to create a more healthy and long-lasting lifestyle.

If we leave it to when we start to show chronic pain and illness symptoms, the path to recovery can be that much harder and longer. Preventative measures are better in the long-run, easier to work into your routine and are much more beneficial. Consider it an investment in your future. What will it take?
